Charlie covers the Witney Constituency, including the towns of Witney, Carterton, Faringdon, Burford & the surrounding villages.
Charlie lives near Witney with his wife Sophie and has three children.
Before entering Parliament, Charlie spent 24 years building BDA Partners, the international mergers and acquisitions advisory firm he co-founded in 1996 at the age of 25. The firm has offices across Asia, Europe and the United States. He subsequently served as a councillor on West Oxfordshire District Council, campaigning on local transport, infrastructure, healthcare and environmental issues.
His family has welcomed refugees from Syria and Ukraine into their home, reflecting his belief in compassion, fairness, and community.
Charlie got involved with the Liberal Democrats in the wake of the Brexit referendum, driven by a belief that the country would be better off if it could rebuild closer ties with Europe and undo the damage done by the Conservatives' botched Brexit deal. A long-standing community campaigner for clean water and better transport links in West Oxfordshire, Charlie has continued to fight hard on these issues since his election to parliament.
Charlie is currently the Liberal Democrat Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury and a member of the Business and Trade Select Committee. His parliamentary work focuses particularly on the economy, public finances, business and trade, as well as issues affecting his constituents.
Charlie has taken a prominent role in challenging Thames Water over its finances and the impact on customers. He intervened in the company's restructuring proceedings in the High Court, arguing that further debt would not be in the interests of Thames Water's customers. He has called for Thames Water to be placed into special administration as an alternative to loading further debt onto customers.
He has also campaigned for closer economic and trading ties with Europe and continues to advocate for improved transport connections across Witney constituency, including the restoration of rail links to Oxford.
